The 2004 trail route was heads-up digitized using a georeferenced JPEG of a Google Earth satellite image. The 2022 trail route was tracked using ArcGIS QuickCapture with a GPS accuracy of 15 feet. Using ArcGIS Field Maps, the 2004 route was surveyed and marked with a GPS accuracy of 15 feet. Finally, a future trail route was proposed to maximize distance and views of the Santa Margarita River and Temecula Canyon. Existing trails were utilized wherever possible to to minimize environmental impact, especially in areas of erosion, animal activity (particularly big-eared woodrat nest sites), or overgrowth.
