Description:
Block groups within San Diego County are shown by the number of people unemployed. The block groups with a darker color have greater unemployment, whereas block groups with a lighter color have less unemployment.

Data acquired from 2019 American Community Survey 5-Year Estimates through the United States Census Bureau website. The U.S. Census Bureau conducts the American Community Survey every year. The 2019 American Community Survey 5-Year Estimates are averages based on survey data compiled from 2015 to 2019. Census block groups represent populations at a smaller scale within Census Tracts.

North County Food Policy Council and San Diego Food System Alliance partnered with Palomar College to develop the San Diego Regional Food Systems GIS Map. Within the map's contents are U.S. Census data for poverty, food assistance, food insecurity, population over 65, population under 18, Hispanic population, and Black population. Demographic characteristics of a population are an indication of food insecurity. Food insecurity is the condition of a person unable to obtain the amount of nutritious food required to meet the needs of themselves and their families.
