Service Description: This polygon feature class contains sports assets in parks and
community spaces that are generally owned and/or maintained by
Auckland Council Community Facilities (CF) Department, and in
special cases by other providers. These include different types of
sports fields, i.e. sand, soil and artificial, cricket wicket and
sports/athletic tracks. It also includes sports courts, e.g.
basketball courts, tennis courts, etc. as well as play courts, e.g.
half-basketball courts.

This data is primarily used by council and its contractors in identifying the location of assets.
Lineage:
This data was a product of consolidating legacy GIS datasets from the previous regional council and seven city and district councils. Since amalgamation in 2010, the data has been updated by Asset Management teams. Polygons are digitised from urban aerial photography and as-built drawings, and attribute information is captured from field validation and inspections during park audits and asset turnover process.
