This set of data provides a delineation of Chesapeake Bay Preservation Areas (Resource Protection Areas and Resource Management Areas) as set forth in Section 118-1-7 of Chapter 118, Chesapeake Bay Preservation Ordinance, of the Code of the County of Fairfax, Virginia adopted by the Board of Supervisors on July 7, 2003 (effective November 18, 2003).

In steep areas that contain clays known as "marine clays" slope stability can be a problem. In addition, structures constructed on clays found in this complex could suffer foundation distress if adequate precautions are not taken during design and construction.

Description: This data contains polygon features representing potential asbestos containing soils in Fairfax County. These soils are mapped over naturally asbestos containing bedrock. Safety precautions must be taken during construction. Orange soils, which overlie a majority of this geology, also contain shrinking-swelling clays which can cause foundation distress.
Description: This data contains polygon features representing previously mapped marine clay soils inFairfax County. These areas were mapped as marine clays in previous surveys. Marine clays are high shrink-swell soils that can cause foundation distress. They are sometimes referred to as Potomac Clays or Deltaic Clays.

Description: This layer identifies a network of both on and off-road routes to assist bicyclists in navigating Fairfax County. With more than 5,000 miles of roadway and 700 miles of trails, the map highlights the most desirable routes and major trails for recreational and commuter bicyclists as well as out of town visitors. And also contains bike lanes.
