Description: The boundary of the Albuquerque Metropolitan Planning Area (AMPA) was adopted in 2012 by the Metropolitan Transportation Board of the Mid-Region Council of Governments of New Mexico through resolution R-12-13 MTB. The 2012 boundary expanded the AMPA to include all of Valencia County, Bernalillo County, and the southeastern portion of Sandoval County. Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPOs) are required by federal law for all urbanized areas with populations greater than 50,000. MPO's are responsible for carrying out metropolitan transportation plans and programs. The MPO for the AMPA is the Mid-Region Metropolitan Planning Organization. The Metropolitan Transportation Board, composed of local elected leaders, sets policy for transportation issues in the urban area.
