Description: Hiawatha National Forest Project Area Boundaries by 6th or Hydrologic Unit Code (HUC 12) watershed. Purpose: 10-year NEPA planning on the the Hiawatha National Forest. Fifth order watersheds (HUC 10) were considered but were not logistically feasible for vegetation management on the West Zone. Sixth order watersheds are the basis for Watershed Condition Classification, Priority Watershed in the Watershed Condition Framework, and is minimum the of analysis boundary for watershed management per Forest Plan 2500-14 Standard 1 (2006).

Copyright Text: 12/11/2023 - edited boundary to fully include a stand in the Veg proposed action, that extended just beyond the Watershed-based boundary, around stand 09100400133060. Historical Info: 04/5/2018 - Imported to WZ5YR_PLAN.gdb L.Goss 12/12/2017 - Calculated Acre and FS_Acre. Changed Grand Island to Addis Rock. L.Goss 12/6/2017 – Dissolved on Name. PRIORITY –column added to represent the recommend order priority based on ZLT recommendations. L. Goss 11/2017 - Created dataset. L.Goss 1) Data source EDW: Database Connections\edw_sde_default_as_myself.sde\S_USA.WCATT_WBD\S_USA.WCATT_HU12 2) Selected HUC12 polygons that intersected Hiawatha proclamation boundary on the West Zone and exported to shapfile. 3) Added column with Project Area Name (NAME) by 5th order Hydrologic Unit Codes (HUC 12). Project areas developed by West Zone Hydrologist and Silviculturist. 4) Exported Grand Island (missing in EDW) subwatershed from T:\FS\Reference\GIS\r09_hif\Data\Hiawatha_Library.gdb 5) Merged Grand Island with WZDraft_ProjectAreas_HUC12 and saved as a feature dataset. 6) Added column called ACRES and calculated Acres U.S. 11/2017 - Created dataset. L.GossFunding and support for the Watershed Boundary Dataset (WBD) were provided by the Natural Resources Conservation Service, the Environmental Protection Agency, and the United States Geological Survey. Representatives from the U.S. Geological Survey and Environmental Protection Agency contributed a substantial amount of time and salary towards quality review and updating of the dataset in order to meet the Federal Standards for Delineation of Hydrologic Unit Boundaries.
