Description: The NWFP_Boundary_2002 feature class contains polygon corporate data which depicts the Northwest Forest Plan boundary updated as requested by the Regional Interagency Executive Committee (RIEC), FEMAT 2002. This feature class is a product of the Pacific Northwest Region Coverage to Geodatabase Conversion Project in an effort to standardize data throughout the Region.
Copyright Text: Data set compiled by Bill Connelly in Region 6 Strategic Planning with line adjustments from Okanogan and Deschutes National Forests and the Columbia River Gorge. Adjustments made BLM OSO GIS staff for lands in the Lakeview RMP. Further minor adjustments made to boundary to include land of California BLM and R5 and R6 and OR BLM along the Pacific Coast and associated estuaries done by Stephen Bown and Bill Connelly of R6.
Description: The NWFP boundary was based on the geographic range of the northern spotted owl. Because the range of the owl was so large, it was divided into 12 physiographic provinces for analytical purposes (FEMAT 1993, Thomas et al. 1990, USDA and USDI 1994). Physiographic provinces were delineated in an attempt to reduce the complex and diverse nature of the owl’s range into broad areas that represented dif-ferent forest zones, plant communities, and disturbance regimes that vary geographi-cally with climate, topography, soils, and geology. These physiographic provinces were largely based on subdivisions by Franklin and Dyrness (1973). We use the same physiographic provinces that were used for the 20-year report (Davis et al. 2015).
