The data used in the Invasive Infestation graphics (Recorded Invasive Infestations, Infestation by Species, Infestation Interactive Map) are exported from the Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) InvasivePlantAll dataset. While data is only displayed for the last 10 years on the dashboard, data from the introduction of the TESP-IS database (2007) for all region 05 forests were exported for analysis. The Infested Acres attribute in the Invasive Species dataset was used to calculate all infested acres. This acreage is a percentage of the Total Area of the polygon drawn in the TESP-IS database. After export from the EDW database, each infestation record was identified as “New” or “Recurring” based on their infestation ID and date collected attribute. If the date of an invasive species record corresponded to the first date a unique infestation ID was assigned in the TESP-IS database, it was designated a status of “New”. Any subsequent years that same infestation ID was recorded are assigned a “Recurring” status. Once a record was assigned a “New” or “Recurring” status, infestations that were recorded one year, but not subsequent years, were copied to those additional years. This was accomplished by programmatically stepping through the list of infestation IDs recorded each year and comparing them to a list of infestation IDs recorded the following year. If an infestation ID was not included in the following year, it was copied from the current year to the following to create a continuous record for graphing purposes. If the infestation ID was included in the following year, the record was not copied, and the recorded “Recurring” value was used for that year. The goal of this analysis is to allow for temporal visualization of active infestations, even if an infestation site is not visited for several years. Active infestation data is used for the Recorded Infestation Acres graphic. See the Data Limitations section below for further information about how this may affect data quality.
