Eastern redcedar encroachment is the chief ecological threat to the Nebraska Sandhills. Over the past century, human actions led to the exponential increase of eastern redcedar across the Nebraska Sandhills, creating an urgent conservation issue for the sandhills and larger Great Plains biome.
This feature layer provides data of the eastern redcedar treatments and wildfires on and near the Bessey Ranger District of the Nebraska National Forests and Grasslands. The data is intended for use in the ArcGIS Experience project Keeping Grasslands Grass: Eastern Redcedar Management in the Nebraska Sandhills (https://experience.arcgis.com/experience/933f06b005c042ffbd8a759a489db185/) and the Bessey Ranger District: Eastern Redcedar Management Dashboard (https://www.arcgis.com/apps/dashboards/9487f87c4d1549fd815d6bf805aa2cc8).
Data includes mechanical treatments, prescribed fire treatments, and wildfire perimeters.
