Source: Rick Laborde GPS data and office description/delineation by S. Hatch in 2011. 2011 Polygons were adjusted to be approximately 50 ft off of current snowmobile trails. Edits: SHatch 5/3/2012: "Closed Area (Non-Wilderness)" polygon reshaped to reflect current wilderness boundary *Owens River Headwaters wilderness*. There was an increase of "Closed Area (Wilderness)" acres and a decrease of "Closed Area (Non-Wilderness)" acres. MSlaton 5/2012: Restricted areas in previous version were combined with restricted areas identified in OSV_mgmt_area layer now in corporate archive. The combined version was provided to SJoyce for 2012 OSV Litigation, and provided closest approximation of previous years' Forest Orders. MSlaton 6/2012: Review with RLaborde. Notes: Areas N of Minaret Summit and in Deadman vicinity where wilderness and OSV restricted area boundaries do not match ARE correct. These are areas outside of wilderness where mountain biking routes occur, but OSV use is restricted. A polygon from the previous version was deleted in the Sherwin Creek/Lakes area; this area was previously groomed for cross country ski use, but is no longer groomed. All previous polygons in the Mammoth Lakes Basin were merged into one. This area needs final review by all Winter Rec Staff. The entire 2012 wilderness, RNA, and Bristlecone Pine Forest features were also added to this layer, which now captures all areas on the INF where OSV use is restricted.
This data layer was updated in January 2019 to reflect changes provided by the Inyo NF Trails Groomer (Jeremy Decell) and approved by the Public Services Staff Officer (Diana Pietrasanta). Trails that were no longer being managed were decommissioned, linear events were updated in Infra, and certain cross-country ski trails were ground-truthed. Comments were also added to specify which entity grooms the trail. This data can also be found in the “Maintainer” field.
