Description:

This layer displays the boundaries of project areas These extents illustrate person defined areas in which many activities occur that have a relationship. A boundary is, as itself, not an activity; it is the extent within which activities occur. Examples are: Timber Sale boundary is the contractual area in which harvesting can take place. NEPA boundary defines where the analysis takes place allowing future activities. SAI Plan boundary contains the area that KV (Knutson-Vandenberg) funded activities can take place. A Timber Sale designation is used for both the Timber Sale and SAI Plan if the SAI plan boundary is identical to the timber sale boundary. If the SAI plan boundary is less than the Timber Sale boundary, both Timber Sale and SAI Plan boundaries are created. CFLRP (Collaborative Forest Landscape Restoration Program) boundary encompass science-based ecosystem restoration of priority forest landscapes activities. Stewardship boundary defines where stewardship funded activities take place. Other boundary allows users to capture person defined boundaries not already categorized. TFPA (Tribal Forest Protection Act of 2004) boundary defines the area which has been submitted and approved for work done under which the Indian tribe would carry out activities to achieve land management goals for Federal land under the Secretary's jurisdiction and bordering or adjacent to the Indian forest land or rangeland under the Indian tribe's jurisdiction. SHFP (Supplemental Hazard Fuels Project) boundary defines where additional Primary Hazard fuels funding target highest priority areas. These areas include: high risk resources (or communities); areas where risks can be effectively reduced through fuel treatments; and where local community partners are actively engaged and invested in managing their risk. FSNRC (Joint Chiefs’ Landscape Restoration Partnership) boundary defines the Joint Chiefs’ Projects, which are chosen competitively between the Forest Service and NRCS. These Projects prioritize wildfire risk reduction, improve water quality and improve habitat for at risk species where public and private lands meet. NFMA (National Forest Management Act) boundary identifies an area of current issues, concerns, and opportunities as well as possible future issues and concerns. These items are used to develop planning criteria.

In Region 4, the forest’s Project Area feature class will be rolled up to the region’s ActivityProjectArea feature class. There are fields that may be blank at the forest level but will be populated in the regional layer, as the data will be pulled from corporate databases, depending on the project type. See the regional matrix for the project area feature class for the required fields.
