Description: A total of 41 anemometers towers were deployed around the three research burns. The network of surface cup-and-vane anemometers (Onset© Wind Smart Sensor Set, Onset© HOBO Micro Station Data Logger) were set up with approximately 33 m spacing around each plot. Each plot had twelve to thirteen anemometers around its perimeter in order to capture the surface wind flow. Plot 1 and 2 shared a line of anemometers on the boundary separating the two units due to the close proximity of the two plots. Additionally, four anemometers were placed upwind of Plot 3 and three placed downwind of Plot 1, each at 50 meter spacing. The anemometer just to the south of (and closest to) the SoDAR south of Plot 1 was placed at ~1.5m Above Ground Level (AGL) to determine if winds near the top of the vegetative fuel were different than winds at 3.3m AGL. Each anemometer tower measures wind speed and directions, with sensors mounted at 3.3-m Above Ground Level (AGL). One sensor on the downwind side of the plots was mountd at 1.5-m to test the effect vegetation might have on wind. The data are used to characterize surface flow patterns before and during the burns. Cup revolutions and unit vector components were sampled at a frequency of three-seconds. Wind speed is the average speed for the entire three-second logging interval. Gust speed is the highest three-second wind recorded during the logging interval. Average direction is calculated from the average of the vector components.
