Description: This is a vector line dataset representing the Trail system at Joshua Tree National Park. This is an inventory of all of the park trails within Joshua Tree National park. This dataset is utilizing the updated Trail Spatial Data Standard dated 10/21/2016. There were park specifi attributesadded to the standard............. for park management use. For data requests and/ or to updated Regional datasets these attributes are removed. This feature class depicts the trails both officially and un-officially that are within the park for planning, administrative , and analysis purposes. This is updated as trails are maintained, added, or re-routed. Latest update: May 2024This line feature class was created to be an all-inclusive trails data collection. One of the main resources for this updated feature class was the trails feature class [TRANS_Trails201703] which was derived from the multiple trails shapefiles that were originally created for the backcountry management plan, approved in January 1998 for general mapping and analysis. The lines of the trails in that original data was updated with high accuracy GNSS GPS devices (Lecia) in 2023/ 2024 by a team of 3 Ace Crew Technicians. All park trails (maintained official trails, unmaintained routes, social trails and climbing management trails) were hiked by the crew to give a higher accuracy representation on the current state of the park trails. Accuracy is still considered approximate, though the accuracy with the GNSS receivers are submeter on average. This feature class is intended for use within all park divisions, publications and other groups as needed. The attributes 'Data Access' and 'Public Display' should be paid special attention to when using this data in products.Attributes:Facility Asset ID - Asset ID from FMSS database for relationship with FMSS and further population of attributes. If blank, it is assumed that the trail is not yet an actual assetTrail Name - Official current name of the trailAlternate Trail Name - Alternative name(s) or historical names of the trailLabel - Trail label used for labeling purposesTrail Feature Type - Category or type of trail Domains: Unknown Park Trail Unmaintained Trail Unofficial Trail Non-NPS TrailTrail Status - Current physical state of the trail or trail segment. This can be used for products showing seasonal closures, trail segments that are closed for trail work, ect. Domains: Existing / Open Temporarily Closed Decommissioned Planned Proposed UnknownTrail Use - Mode of travel that is actively managed and appropriate on a trail, based on its design and management. These are allowed unless specifically prohibited. *Need to be able to select multiple options for trails that have multiple use* Domains: Unknown Hiker / Pedestrian Bicycle Pack and Saddle All-Terrain Vehicle Motorcycle OtherTrail Surface - The predominant surface type the use would expect to encounter on the trail or trail segment. Domains: Sand | Sandy Wash Stabilized Soil Native Boardwalk Concrete Earth Gravel Masonry / Stone Asphalt Aggregate Gravel Clay Non-organic Oyster Shells Rip Rap Wood Wood Chips OtherTrail Class - The prescribed scale of development for a trail, representing its intended design and management standards Domains: Unknown Class 1: Minimally Developed Class 2: Moderately Developed Class 3: Developed Class 4: Highly Developed Class 5: Fully Developed Not ApplicableTrail Type - Category that reflects the predominant trail surface and general mode of travel. Default value is set to: "Standard Terra Trail" Domains: Unknown Standard Terra Trail Snow Trail Water TrailADA - Is the trail ADA accessible. This is a Yes or No domain association.Nature Trail - Is the trail classified at the park as a Nature Trail. This is a Yes or No domain association.Maintainer - The agency or party having primary (largest share) of financial responsibility for maintenance of infrastructure. This is a domain attribute, the default value is " National Park Service"Is Extant - Indicates feature or features that are no longer in existence or partially in existence. If data represents features that are no longer in existence or only partially in existence following damage, disaster or some other change to its status then the value will be 'false' or 'partial' Domains: Unknown True False Partial OtherPublic Display - Feature is available for 1) public distribution, 2) consumption by a public facing system or service, 3) display on a public interface. This field gives data providers the flexibility to identify features that are not appropriate to make publicly available. Besides sensitive data, this may include data that does not originate at NPS. Any feature marked as restricted in DATAACCESS should automatically have a false value here. Domains: No Public Map Display Public Map DisplayData Access - The extent of permitted access to the feature geometry and associated attributes Domains: Internal NPS Only Secure Access Only UnrestrictedUnit Code - NPS Alphabetic code (4-characters) of the NPS operational unit. Default value set to "JOTR"Unit Name - Full unit name of the NPS organizational unit. Default value set to: "Joshua Tree National Park"Region Code - The alpha code of the NPS Region. Description: This feature class dipicts the current boundary of Joshua Tree National Park as of June 2019. This data was created from the file JOTR_ParkBoundary that is located in the JOTR_BaseData geodatabase and has the additional lands that were added to the park in January 2019 from the Dingle Act from BLM and MDLT lands. The Updates came from the lands office and the originl file (Bnd.py) needed some corrections which have since been completed. The updates have been completed and compiled with the previous boundary. This feature class depics boundary of the park only, it does not in any was convey any type of ownership. There are a number of privately owned parcels within the park boundary that are owned by private individuals. The accuracy has not been verified and as such changes may be made in the near future, but as of July 8, 2019 this is up to date as is known.
