Water_Level_Changes_in_Lake_Poyang_MPrice_WFL1 (FeatureServer)

Service Description: Lake Poyang is China's largest freshwater lake. Overtime the lake has been shrinking because upstream water is being pulled from the Yangtze River and the Three Gorges Dam. Those who's livelihoods depend on this body of fresh water need to prove that the lake is shrinking in order to save it. To calculate the lake's change over time, I took Landsat satellite images of Lake Poyang from 1984, 2001, and 2014. I took those images and used the iso cluster unsupervised classification tool. Then I cleaned up the images with the majority filter and boundary clean tools. Then I added a hectare field to their attribute tables and used calculate fields to figure out how many hectares the lake has lost over time. Based on my findings, Lake Poyang has lost several hectares of land over a thirty year period.
