Service Description: Knowing the type of ground surfaces that lie underneath properties is important to the realtor industry and can affect what kind of fees landowners will be charged. Since impervious grounds can cause environmental problems such as flooding and contaminating runoff, identifying the type of ground per parcel is paramount. To achieve this, spectral bands were extracted from an aerial photo to distinguish land from urban features and then run through the image classification wizard through supervisation and segmentation. After adding custom classes for impervious and pervious features, sublasses were included under both using polygons and classified. Any errors seen were fixed through reclassification and the calculation of total pervious and impervious land was done through tabulation and symbolized onto two different parcel layers.
