Service Description: The objective of this project is to identify the existing public transportation routes and stops in San Diego County and propose new routes and stops. It constitutes both service area analysis and suitability analysis. Three variables in demographic data set are analyzed, poverty, not owning a vehicle, and population density. The geoprocessing tools used in this analysis including Create Features (from GTFS data), Service Area, Masking, Enrich, Feature to Raster, Rescale by Function, Weight Sum, etc.
The output layer of suitability analysis shows that the public transportation routes and stops in San Diego County cover most of the community with high density population, low income and not owning any vehicle. However, the walking distances to the nearest public transportation station of some poor neighbourhoods with high population densities are longer than 10 mins. New stations should be considered to be built in those neighbourhoods.
