Service Description: The decline in freshwater land cover carries various socioeconomic implications that directly affect the inhabitants relying on these resources. Lake Poyang, situated in the southeastern region of China, has witnessed a decrease in its land cover area over the past three decades, significantly impacting the well-being of those dependent on the lake. Satellite imagery from Landsat was acquired, and the Iso Cluster Unsupervised Classification tool was employed to automatically classify new cell values based on the satellite data. To enhance clarity and accuracy, the resulting classified rasters were refined using both the Majority Filter and Boundary Clean spatial analyst tools. Between 1984 and 2014, the analysis of imagery data revealed that approximately 25% of Lake Poyang's surface area had been lost, amounting to a loss of roughly 67,346 hectares during the same period. In order to address the implications of the diminishing lake, a combination of short-term and long-term strategies should be adopted. In the short term, implementing stricter regulatory measures on water usage could offer some relief. On a broader scale, the long-term goals should encompass revising the sustainable water management plan and initiating ecosystem service restoration through reforestation efforts.
