Description: Overview
This feature service provides a detailed geospatial representation of the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) transit system, encompassing multiple transit modes and infrastructures.
Feature Layers
- Rapid Transit Stations: This layer includes all stations for the rapid transit rail infrastructure: Red, Orange, Blue, and Green Lines. source and data dictionary - MassGIS MBTA Rapid Transit
- Ferry Infrastructure: The Ferry Docks and Ferry layers represent maritime transit facilities and routes. src - GTFS
- Bus Stops and Routes: This group includes layers for bus stops and bus service classifications such as Frequent, Local, Coverage, Supplemental, Rail Replacement, and Commuter. These layers capture stop locations with attributes including stop identification, platform information, accessibility features, served routes, municipal jurisdictions, and bus route garage origin. src - GTFS
- Subway Lines: Subway lines are individually mapped through layers for the Red, Orange, Blue, Green, and Mattapan lines. Each contain comprehensive route information, fare classifications, and unique identifiers. src - GTFS
- Commuter Rail and CapeFlyer: Commuter Rail and CapeFlyer line and station layers contain comprehensive route information and fare classification. src - GTFS
Important Notes
- GTFS Rail Routes display the “canonical” variant.
- There is one station node for each rapid transit station (not including Silver Line) and commuter rail regardless of how many lines it serves.
- Silver Line stops/stations are included in the BusStops layer, not the Rapid_Transit_Stations layer.
- All bus route variants are displayed on the map as separate polylines.
