Description: The Biodiversity Rank Index is derived from WV Division of Natural Resources spatial data of rare, threatened, and endangered species, Species of Greatest Conservation Need, and high-quality natural communities using methods described by NatureServe. Biodiversity Rank values are calculated based on presence, quality, and concentration of these species and communities within a spatial area of interest. The results highlight areas from “B1 – Outstanding global biodiversity significance” to “B6 – Local biodiversity significance”. Areas that do not have a Biodiversity Rank have no documented rare species or natural communities, either because no rare species/communities were found during surveys or because the area has not been surveyed.
