Service Description: This web map displays publicly owned lands in North Carolina that are suitable for the establishment of a new state park, based on two main criteria: biodiversity value and proximity to protected areas.
Final candidate locations were identified through spatial analysis of managed areas, biodiversity hotspots, and trail networks. Public lands were filtered to include only federal, state, or local government ownership. Biodiversity values were attached to potential state park sites, and proximity buffers were applied to assess connectivity with existing trails.
