Description: This is a hypothetical Problem. The United States Forest Service, along with the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Management, are looking to analyze fire initiation points that occurred in 2020 in the various National Forests within the state of California to decide on which county they might construct a new Operations Center. The CalOES Inland Administrative Region is the Region within California that they want to focus on. With greater numbers of fires occurring every year within National Forests in California, a new Operations Center location will allow the United States Forest Service to respond to incidents and relieve pressure from the other established operations centers more quickly. First, the locations and amounts of fire ignition points in National Forests within the state of California are assessed using fire ignition point data from 2020. Specific counties, National Forests and established Operations Center locations will be examined to better understand where the placement of a new Operations Center within the CalOES Inland Administrative Region should be constructed based on amounts of fire ignition points. Second, desirable county locations for Operations Centers that are selected must meet these three (3) criteria: 1. Be located within a county near a National Forest that had a large number of fire ignition points in the year 2020. 2. Be in a county that is within fifteen (15) miles of the border of a National Forest located in California. 3. Be more than 50 miles away from another established Operations Center.
