Description: Currently, there is no research to indicate if demographics within North Carolina counties and legislative districts impacts the availability of SNAP retailers for SNAP recipients. To better understand the SNAP landscape in North Carolina, North Carolina Alliance for Health (NCAH) has requested Geospatial Information Science (GIS) support from North Carolina State University’s (NCSU) Master’s of Geospatial and Information Science (MGIST) program. As a basis, NCAH needs to know which stores accept SNAP and where they are in North Carolina. Then to gain a deeper understanding, NCAH wants to identify any disparities in North Carolina considering county and legislative district demographics and SNAP availability (i.e. Do NC Counties/Legislative District with higher median income have greater access to SNAP?).
