Description:

November 14, 2014 by Greg Bazhaw

After several IC Subcommittee meetings discussing GIS Layers and Geobrowser issues over the course of September 12, 13 and October 14, 22, 2014, reverted the value back in the field "land_cover_name" as follows:

Serpenting Rock Outcrop reverted back to Serpentine Rock Outcrop / Barrens

At these meetings were Greg Bazhaw, Kim Rook, Rob Eastwood (County Planning), Kathryn Gaffney, Dan Schiff (ICF), Don Arnold, Janell Hillman (SCVWD) and John Falkowski (County Parks).

Several inconsistencies for some of the values in the field "land_cover_name" were updated to reflect the actual language in Table 3-1 of The Plan. These values are:

Serpentine Rock Outcrop/Barrens Serpentine Rock Outcrop

Knobcone Pine Forest Knobcone Pine Woodland

Agriculture Developed / Covered Ag Agriculture Developed

Grain, Row-crop, hay & pasture, disked/ short-te Grain, Row-Crop, Hay and Pasture, Disked / Short-Term Fallowed

Also, a new field was added called "Documentation" and popoulated with the path to source documentation relating to the layer

These data are a copy of the original ICF land cover data (land_cover_scvhcp, renamed to land_cover) downloaded on this day (updated and redistributed on March 8, 2013). The data were processed in the following manner:

1. Topology was created and two rules applied: (a) features must not overlap, and (b) features must not have gaps. After validation, no errors were found.

2. For each veg_type code, applied the tool Explode Multipart Feature from the Advanced Editing Toolbox. Compared the results to Table 3-7, which were very different, both in numbers of polygons and Acres for each Vegetation Type.

3. Added a field called Area_Acres and calculaged geometry in acres.

4. Revalidated topology and found no errors.

Land Cover in the Santa Clara Valley HCP/NCCP study area. There is a domain in the geodatabase to map from the numerical code to a land cover type. Exported data will often show the domain number, not the actual land cover type. **The domain values are NOT the same as the Land Cover Code** 10/15/2008 - Field Land_Cover_Name added. This field contains the full land cover type for each polygon. You can use this field instead of veg_type for any analysis/symbology for the land cover. The lookup table for the veg_types table was joined to the dataset. This field was then calculated with the text values of the land cover type.

Updated 3/5/2012 - Data was updated with new serpentine grassland and land cover mapping from the Young Ranch project.
