Service Description: The purpose of this information is to identify areas exposed to dynamic coastal inundation caused by wave run-up and overtopping during present-day extreme sea level events. The mapping supports hazard planning by estimating the inland extent of wave effects using empirical formula and hydrodynamic wave modelling.

Description:

This dataset presents the extent of dynamic coastal inundation caused by wave run-up under present-day 1% Annual Exceedance Probability (AEP) conditions. The mapping identifies areas along the Nelson City coastline where wave effects may cause temporary flooding at the coastal edge.

Covers nine coastal inundation cells:

Finalised December 2024, based on 2021 LiDAR and 2020-2024 modelling.

Developed by Tonkin & Taylor Ltd for Nelson City Council and recorded as Nelson Coastal Inundation Mapping Update, Phase B (v1), December 2024.

Derived from 2021 LiDAR data and wave run-up values from T+T (2020). Empirical methods were used for most shorelines; hydrodynamic modelling was applied to Rocks Road and Wakapuaka Flats. Mapping does not account for future shoreline changes or topography-induced overland flow paths.
