Description: The New Zealand Freshwater Fish Database (NZFFD), managed by NIWA, contains over 34,000 freshwater fish observationsfor New Zealand, and over 1800 for Nelson City region.Data stored include:the location of the sample sites, the fish species present, information of their abundance and size, sampling methods,physical description of each site In recent years, data from the River Environment Classification (REC) has also been linked to the NZFFD, adding further environmental information to each NZFFD record.About the data:The source of truth for this data is the NZ Freshwater Fish Database https://nzffdms.niwa.co.nz/The data has been downloaded for Nelson City only and then summarised by the Nelson City Council.It is planned to be updated annually. A full list of species can be found as XLS at NIWAThe source reference system is NZGM and has to be reprojected to NZDM (see workflow step 3.4)
