Description: Revised fault hazard mapping was generated at a scale of 1:5,000 to 1:10,000, where datasets allowed. Smaller scales of 1:50,000 to 1:250,000 were applied elsewhere. The assessment, undertaken in 2021, followed Steps 1 and 2 of the Ministry for the Environment guidance, Planning for Development of Land on or Close to Active Faults (2003).
Mapping identifies areas around eight active or potentially active faults in the region that could deform or rupture the ground surface. The mapped Fault Deformation Overlay consists of three areas:
Existing section of fault rupture overlay
Revised section of existing fault rupture overlay
Less defined section of overlay
Copyright Text: The mapping was commissioned by Nelson City Council and undertaken by Beca Limited.
