This shows the boundaries of legally designated Areas in Need of Redevelopment within the City of Newark.
Areas in Need of Redevelopment are defined and mapped through the redevelopment process as defined and governed by constitutional, statutory, and regulatory requirements. These requirements are in turn molded by court decisions that affect the way the laws are applied.
The Opportunity Zones program was enacted as part of the 2017 federal Tax Cuts and Jobs Act and is designed to drive long-term capital investments into low-income rural and urban communities. The program provides opportunities for private investors to support investments in distressed communities through participation in Opportunity Funds under rules released by the U.S. Department of the Treasury.
This polygon dataset represents the Urban Enterprise Zones (UEZ) that is found within the City of Newark.; clipped from the NJOGIS statewide layer. UEZ's provide significant incentives and benefits to businesses that locate within these zones. New Jersey's Urban Enterprise (UEZ) Program, enacted in 1983, is in the Department of Community Affairs. The UEZ Program exists to foster an economic climate that revitalizes designated urban communities and stimulates their growth by encouraging businesses to develop and create private sector jobs through public and private investment.
