Description: The Atlas Block is the basic survey unit of the Maine Bird Atlas. All records submitted to the Atlas must be delineated into the appropriate Atlas Block. Maine has been gridded into 7.5 minute U.S. Geological Survey quads (topo maps) and we have subdivided each quad into 6 Sampling Blocks. Each Block has a unique name based on the name of the corresponding topo map name plus a 2 letter code based on their position within the topo map.
