Description:

State-wide GIS dataset approximating the location of the Highest Astronomical Tide along the Maine coastline. The line feature class includes queriable information on the predicted Highest Astronomical Tide. The data was created using outputs from a python-based tool developed by the Maine Geological Survey which adjusts Highest Astronomical Tide predictions from NOAA CO-OPs tidal stations along the coastline using NOAA's VDATUM. Bare-earth Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) digital elevation models or DEMs,of Maine’s coastal zone areas (2006, 2010, 2011, and 2015-2017) were also used as part of the analysis.

The line feature class includes the following attributes:

  • SECONDARY_STATION - the nearest (and hydrologically important) NOAA CO-OPs tidal prediction station which was used to determine the Highest Astronomical Tide value for a stretch of the Maine coastline.

  • HT_FT_NAVD - the Highest Astronomical Tide, referenced in feet, NAVD88, rounded to the nearest tenth-of-a-foot, for stretches of the Maine coastline.
