Description: CMGEs (coastal marine geologic environments), the 1976 geology map series of the coast, shows the earth materials and earth processes interacting to form the substrate of the interirdal and shallow subtidal areas of the coast. Shoreline geologic processes also extend onto the upland for short distances - the supra-tidal zone. CMGEs are identified by their unit code to a specific type of coastal geology. The original maps were created at 2 different scales so in some areas the CMGEs will overlap, and may not meet each other. This is an artifact of the original data. Unit codes (UN) refer to the legend on the CMGE map sheets. The LEGEND field just states what is in the legend for a feature's UN code (so the user does not have to look it up).
