Description: La planificación de la conservación de la biodiversidad terrestre es fundamental ya que México pertenece a uno de los países llamados mega diversos. La excepcional biodiversidad de México se expresa en la heterogeneidad de sus paisajes, ecosistemas y numerosas especies que se distribuyen en todo su territorio, albergando 12% de los organismos vivos del planeta. Esta biodiversidad se encuentra altamente amenazada por las altas tasas de deforestación y degradación ambiental. Aunado a esto, el tráfico ilegal de especies, la contaminación y el establecimiento de especies exóticas invasoras incrementan el riesgo de extinción de un gran número de especies. La presente cartografía representa los primeros resultados principales de la identificación de los sitios prioritarios para la conservación de la biodiversidad terrestre. Se evaluó el nivel de protección con unidades de análisis de 256 km2 y datos de especies, comunidades y los principales factores que las amenazan. Se identificaron sitios de extrema, alta y media prioridad.
