Service Description: This is the HCC Tree Canopy Height model, produced from November 2019 Lidar. This particular model uses a minimum tree crown height of 3.5m and a minimum crown area of 2msq. This definition has been selected as it aligns with other modelling in NZ and is a good break point to distinguish between trees and shrubs, however it may still contain some large ones. The model attempts to delineate individual trees - it does this more accurately when trees are more sparse or disconnected. It may over or under split trees in clusters for example gullies or forests. This however does not effect the accuracy of the canopy extent.
The purpose of this modelling is to assist with environmental monitoring and planning at council.
