Core Attributes These attributes are common across all feature classes extracted as part of the SWAAI project where applicable.

• UniqueID Unique ID for this feature type, assigned by Cyclomedia staff.

• RouteID Route ID based on ITD’s Esri Roads & Highways linear referencing system (LRS). A copy of ITD’s LRS network was provided to Cyclomedia.

• RouteDirectionCode Travel direction of nearest highway lane to feature, ascending (A) or descending (D).

• Measure or FromMeasure/ToMeasure LRS measure (in the case of discrete point features) or from/to LRS measures (in the case of line or polygon features) based on ITD’s Esri Roads & Highways LRS.

• SideOfRoad Side of road location of feature, generally L (left) or R (right). Values for B (both), C (center), and N (neither) were also included as text domain values for use where applicable.

• X/Y/Z or From_X/To_X/From_Y/To_Y/From_Z/To_Z Longitude (X), Latitude (Y), and Elevation (Z) values were included for each extracted feature (X/Y/Z for discrete points, to/from X/Y/Z for lines and polygons) Rather than the metric northing/easting present in the Idaho Transverse Mercator (IDTM, WKID: 8826) projection, the projection used for all SWAAI datasets, X and Y are decimal-degree latitude/longitude. The elevation field, Z, is in U.S. feet.

• StreetSmartLink URL link to the feature’s location in Cyclomedia’s browser-based Street Smart photo and LiDAR depth surface viewer. Following the link brings the user directly to the closest Street Smart collection location and angles the view to look directly at the feature in the 360° photograph.

• Comments General comments field.

• CollectedDate Date the feature was observed and field-collected by Cyclomedia during the vehicle-based data collection process.

Key Attributes These attributes are unique to this feature class, or are used differently than other GIS datasets extracted as part of the SWAAI project.

• GuardrailMaterial Primary material that the guardrail component of the barrier is comprised of. A new feature was extracted each time this material changed along the length of a barrier assembly. This short integer field includes the GuardrailMaterial domain, with the following coded domain values:

  • Metal (1) Primary material comprising the guardrail is metal (ex. W-beam, thrie-beam).

  • Wood (2) Primary material comprising the guardrail is wood.

  • Concrete (3) Primary material comprising the guardrail is concrete, i.e. the barrier was made of concrete and did not include a rail component (concrete barrier).

  • Cable (4) Primary material comprising the guardrail is a cable (cable rail).

  • Other (99) Primary material comprising the guardrail was a material other than metal, wood, concrete, or cable.

• GuardrailType General structural design of the barrier’s guardrail component. A new feature was extracted each time this guardrail type changed along the length of a barrier assembly. This short integer field includes the GuardrailType domain, with the following coded domain values:

  • W-Beam (1) Guardrail section is W-beam, a common guardrail type with a shape resembling a “W.”

  • Thrie-Beam (2) Guardrail section is thrie-beam, similar in appearance to but larger than W-beam guardrail.

  • Cable Rail (3) Guardrail section is cable rail; the rail consists of a set of cables.

  • Box Beam (4) Guardrail section is box beam, a rail type with a square, box-like structure.

  • Concrete Barrier (5) Concrete barrier section, the barrier is primary comprised of concrete.

  • Bridge Rail (6) Guardrail section is bridge rail. This type is a “catch-all” for various types of guardrails found on bridges but not specifically another type.

  • Combination (7) Guardrail section is a transitional section between two guardrail types, such as between a W-beam connected to a thrie-beam.

  • Other (99) Guardrail section is a type other than W-beam, thrie-beam, cable rail, box beam, concrete barrier, bridge rail, or combination.

• PostMaterial Primary material comprising the post supports of the barrier assembly. Blocks connecting the post to the rail may differ in material from the posts themselves (i.e. a metal post with a wood block connector). A new feature was extracted each time the post material changed along the length of a barrier assembly. This short integer field includes the PostMaterial domain, with the following coded domain values:

  • Metal (1) Posts for the barrier section are primarily comprised of metal.

  • Wood (2) Posts for the barrier section are primarily comprised of wood.

  • Concrete (3) Barrier section is a concrete barrier.

  • Other (99) Posts for the barrier section are primarily comprised of a material other than metal, wood, or concrete.

• LeadingEndType General type for the leading end of the barrier section within its barrier assembly. Leading end as opposed to trailing end was determined by the direction of the route (based on increasing measure values). This short integer field includes the GuardrailEndType domain, with the following coded domain values:

  • Buried End (1) Barrier end is buried, typically in a hillslope but also including ends with dirt piled on them.

  • Flared (2) Barrier end is flared, meaning the end was turned away from being directly parallel with the roadway.

  • Parallel (3) Barrier end is parallel, meaning the end is directly parallel with the roadway.

  • Crash Cushion (4) Barrier ends in a crash cushion, designed to absorb the impact of a crash.

  • Other (99) Barrier end has an end type other than buried end, flared, parallel, or crash cushion.

• TrailingEndType General type for the trailing end of the barrier section within its barrier assembly. Trailing end as opposed to leading end was determined by the direction of the route (based on increasing measure values). This short integer field includes the GuardrailEndType domain, with the following coded domain values:

  • Buried End (1) Barrier end is buried, typically in a hillslope but also including ends with dirt piled on them.

  • Flared (2) Barrier end is flared, meaning the end was turned away from being directly parallel with the roadway.

• Offset_in Average distance from closest edge of barrier to edge of nearest lane (outside paint stripe), in inches.

• Height_in Average height of barrier assembly, from the height of the nearest roadway pavement to the top of the barrier, in inches.

• Length_ft Length of the guardrail section, in feet, from leading end to trailing end, rounded to the nearest whole foot.

Spatial Reference All data extracted as part of the SWAAI project is projected to Idaho Transverse Mercator (WKID: 8826), using the NAD 1983 (WKID: 4269) geographic coordinate system. NAVD88 (WKID: 6360) was the vertical coordinate system used for all elevation measurements.
