The Conservation Lands Network is a science-based guide for conservation efforts throughout Bay Area. The CLN supports strategic investments in land acquisition and stewardship by focusing conservation in areas that represent the region’s biodiversity and support ecological function across the nearly 5 million acres that comprise the ten Bay Area counties.

The Conservation Lands Network areas represent the configuration of Bay Area habitats and linkages needed to meet the goals for biodiversity conservation.

The configuration of Bay Area habitats and linkages needed to meet the goals for biodiversity conservation.

Habitat linkage represents a large-scale, intact corridor that facilitates wildlife movement between habitat areas that is essential for maintaining biodiversity and healthy ecological processes at the landscape level. Although the term is frequently used synonymously with corridor, ‘linkage’ technically refers to broader regions of connectivity important to facilitate the movement of multiple species and maintain ecological processes.
