View In:   Map Viewer

Service Description: This dataset is the spatial representation of a local roads event table generated during the production of the Unified LRS. It contains attributes that are not included within the Unfied LRS data model. The local roads features are those from the Unified LRS and were acquired from U.S. Census TIGER files, local governments, and Open Street Map. Updates are ongoing.

Local TIGER Roads Details

This dataset is a subset of the original TIGER/Line Shapefile produced by the U.S. Census. The following changes have been made to the original TIGER dataset: All overlapping line segments have been removed. Bridle paths, parking lot roads, bike paths, walkways, stairways, and alleys have been removed. Line segments that are already represented in the FDOT's RCI centerline dataset have been removed or edited (this includes editing TIGER segments that are only partially represented by RCI line segments). Road Names have been formatted to US postal service and RCI road naming standards. Tiger segments have been edited to topologically conjoin with RCI centerline roads. The TIGER/Line shapefiles and related database files (.dbf) are an extract of selected geographic and cartographic information from the U.S. Census Bureau's Master Address File / Topologically Integrated Geographic Encoding and Referencing (MAF/TIGER) Database (MTDB). The MTDB represents a seamless national file with no overlaps or gaps between parts, however, each TIGER/Line shapefile is designed to stand alone as an independent data set, or they can be combined to cover the entire nation. The All Roads Shapefile includes all features within the MTDB Super Class "Road/Path Features" distinguished where the MAF/TIGER Feature Classification Code (MTFCC) for the feature in MTDB that begins with "S". This includes all primary, secondary, local neighborhood, and rural roads, city streets, vehicular trails (4wd), ramps, service drives, alleys, parking lot roads, private roads for service vehicles (logging, oil fields, ranches, etc.), bike paths or trails, bridle/horse paths, walkways/pedestrian trails, and stairways.

Centerlines from Local Governments

Where available, data from local governments (counties, cities) is being compared with the existing TIGER centerlines.  If a more recent centerline geometry differs from the corresponding TIGER centerline, then the centerline from the local government replaces the TIGER centerline. Attributes from local governments are also being reviewed, standardized, and incorporated where applicable.  This is an ongoing process and not all local government data has been reviewed and incorporated.

Centerlines from Open Street Map

Where available, centerlines that represent privately-owned roads are being added from Open Street Map. This is an ongoing process and not all private roads have been reviewed and incorporated.

Road Ownership

Ownership for the local roads is described in the data dictionary below.
For full state ownership, also use the feature layer “State_Roads_TDA”.
For full county ownership, also use the feature layer “County_Roads_TDA”.
