As part of the basemap data layers, the sewershed boundary map layer is an integral part of the Lexington Fayette-Urban County Government Geographic Information System. Basemap data layers are accessed by personnel in most LFUCG divisions for basic applications such as viewing, querying, and map output production. More advanced user applications may focus on thematic mapping, summarization of data by geography, or planning purposes (including defining boundaries, managing assets and facilities, integrating attribute databases with geographic features, spatial analysis, and presentation output).
Sewersheds are loosely based on watershed boundaries by into which watershed sanitary sewer structures fall. The watershed area with the Urban Service Area is further broken down into small geographic extents. These areas tend to contain features of the santiary sewer network which flow to a common feature. These features include, but are not limted to, trunk lines, force mains, gravity mains, pump stations, or waste water treatment plants. The major sewershed classification is based on the watershed, and the sewershed ID minor areas is comprised of the major shed abbreviation and a sequential, arbitrary number designation.
