Collation of habitat point records contributing to the Geodatabase of Marine features adjacent to Scotland (GeMS). Records are attributed as to their qualification as protected features of protected areas within the Scottish MPA network. Where appropriate typical record details will include: status as Scottish Priority Marine Features or Annex I Habitat, MNCR biotope, EUNIS habitat, date, date range, year, status, accuracy, determiner and details of where the records are sourced from and intellectual property ownership.
Collation of species point records contributing to the Geodatabase of Marine features adjacent to Scotland (GeMS). Records are attributed as to their qualification as protected features of protected areas within the Scottish MPA network. Where appropriate typical record details will include: status as Scottish Priority Marine Features or Annex II Species, scientific name, abundance details, date, date range, year, status, accuracy, determiner and details of where the records are sourced from and intellectual property ownership.
Hebridean Whale and Dolphin Trust sightings data related to Harbour porpoise (2003 to 2015). Data collected through boat-based surveys from the vessel Silurian; sightings in this dataset are not adjusted for effort. The data simply show the locations in which calves and juveniles were recorded. The dataset includes subset of records relating to Harbour porpoise calves and juveniles which were used as evidence in consideration of the possible Inner Hebrides and the Minches SAC. The data give a conservative and qualitative overview of Harbour porpoise occurrence across the data extent, including that for calf and juvenile where relevant. Areas with low survey effort will be under represented, and so to will areas with consistently higher sea state (due to observer perception bias).
Data is clipped to extent of Scotland's seas.
This data was provided by the Joint Nature Conservation Committee (JNCC) through the Joint Cetacean Protocol, and is an analysis of effort related transect based survey segmentspresented as points representing mid points of survey segments. A subset of the records (those relating to months April through September) were used in the West Scotland Shelf analysis modelling. These data are a Scotland's seas subset of a UK dataset, which collated relevant data from 545 distinct effort-related surveys from ships and aircraft spanning 18 years of data collection (1994-2011), and included circa 20,000 sightings or harbour porpoise.data includes statistical correction of the number of sightings of Harbour porpoise due to differences in detection probabilities across the multitude of survey platforms, survey conditions and protocols. Effort from sea-based surveys was split into approximately 10km segments, each with associated corrected number of harbour porpoise sightings. These segments were the starting point for analysis contracted by Joint Nature Conservation Committee to DHI Water Environments (UK) Ltd.
The records in this dataset were those visual survey data used in the West Scotland Shelf analysis. The records represent a subset of those available both because only those from data owners who gave permission could be used, but also because the model into which the sightings were input also required covariate environmental data availability, sightings data could not be used when no geograpically coincident covariate data was available.
Data remains under the control of various data owners, and was made available into the West Scotland shelf analysis through the Joint Cetacean Protocol (see http://jncc.defra.gov.uk/page-5657 ). Permission to use relevant records was expressly sought from each of the data owners/ providers by Joint Nature Conservation Committee; only where permission was granted were records used.
Collation of species line records contributing to the Geodatabase of Marine features adjacent to Scotland (GeMS).
Collation of habitat polygon records contributing to the Geodatabase of Marine features adjacent to Scotland (GeMS). Polygon area values in the HECTARES field are calculated using ETRS89-LAEA (EPSG:3035) using the standard centre of projection at 10° E, 52° N.
Collation of large-scale features of functional significance records contributing to the Geodatabase of Marine features adjacent to Scotland (GeMS). Records are attributed as to their qualification as protected features of protected areas within the Scottish MPA network. Where appropriate typical record details will include: status as Scottish Large-scale features of functional significance or Annex I Habitat, MNCR biotope, EUNIS habitat, date, date range, year, status, accuracy, determiner and details of where the records are sourced from and intellectual property ownership. Contains attribution relating to the protected status of the various feature records. Polygon area values in the HECTARES field are calculated using ETRS89-LAEA (EPSG:3035) using the standard centre of projection at 10° E, 52° N.
