Primary Existing Land Use
 

This data displays existing land use conditions in Napa County split by Geographic Evaluation Areas. This layer was built using data from the years 2025 and 2026, mirroring the 2004 methodology used in the creation of “Existing Land Use” tables and maps shown in the 2005 Napa County BDR.  

In 2004, a land use evaluation effort was made for the 2005 Napa County BDR that aimed to summarize the use of land and provide “…a more thorough and realistic analysis of the existing land use conditions within Napa County” (2005 Napa County BDR, p. 9-12). While the resulting primary land use categories (mapped and referred to as “Existing Land Use” in the 2005 Napa County BDR) were based on General Plan Land Use designations, they are made for analysis and are not meant to represent exact assessor land use designation, zoning district, or current and/or future General Plan Land Use designation. 

Efforts in creating the “Primary Existing Land Use” dataset followed the prior methodology of acquiring assessor land use codes and recorded acres from the Napa County Assessor’s parcel database and querying this data in combination with Napa County’s Agriculture, Parks, and Wineries datasets. In cases where classification could be unclear, County staff reviewed the 2002 aerial imagery used to inform the prior land use dataset against 2025 aerial imagery.  

2026 Napa County Baseline Data Report (BDR)

Preliminary land use evaluation done for the 2026 Napa County Baseline Data Report (BDR), made to represent existing conditions of land use in Napa County. This layer represents initial land use evaluation done for the 2026 BDR. Future evaluations are expected as part of the General Plan Update (GPU) to inform the GPU, and is not meant to represent the current or potential future General Plan land use map. Currently this dataset is a baseline of existing conditions across the county, made by replicating 2004 methodology previously used to create the tables and maps of "Existing Land Use" for the 2005 Napa County BDR.
