The Geospatial Multi-Agency Coordination Group, or GeoMAC, is an internet-based mapping tool originally designed for fire managers to access online maps of current fire locations and perimeters in the conterminous 48 states and Alaska. Perimeters are submitted to GeoMAC by field offices and then posted to an FTP site for downloading. This file contains all fire perimeters that were submitted to GeoMAC by field offices for the current year. The projection is geographic and the datum is NAD83.
POD data was provided in shapefile format to the forest from CFRI. After a thorough data review, it was determined that there was a necessary level of clean up to the data to make it useable and integratable into the corportate library. Data was imported into geodatabase format as a featureclass and topology rules defined. The rules were "must not have gaps" and "must not overlap". Topology was validated and yielded over 6000 errors where the rules were broken. The "auto-complete" editing tool was used to retain the same delineations as the original, only filling in the white space (gaps) to create contiguous polygons with coincident boundaries. Once features were clean and topology yielded no errors, the "smooth" tool was used with a 30m threshold to clean up remaining jagged vertices. This dataset is the resulting cleaned up version that the forest will use for any planning and anlysis efforts.
