Service Description: Rocky Mtn Wild suggestion of areas that would be important to protect for biodiversity in the San Juan Mountains and Gunnison Basin Landscapes.mThere are 20 suggested areas on federal public lands in the sheet, 10 in the San Juan Mountains landscape and 10 in the Gunnison Basin. These are all areas that were identified either as roadless areas by the Forest Service or as Lands with Wilderness Characteristics (LWC) by the BLM and that scored well for crucial habitat. RMW used roadless areas and LWC areas because they are areas that have been identified by the agencies as being in a somewhat natural state and that do not have Wilderness level protections. The crucial habitat scoring is based on the Western Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies' Crucial Habitat Assessment Tool.
