Purpose and Use: This San Marcos Fire Department dataset depicts the ISO Class rating of land parcels for the City of San Marcos, Texas. Dataset was created for the Fire ISO Map lookup application. This dataset supports the zone lookup for returned addresses in the app.

Data Collection Methodology: The ISO rating for properties is determined based on how close they are to fire hydrants and fire stations, using three categories: Class 02, Class 2X and Class 10. Distance to hydrants is calculated by creating a 1000-foot buffer around each hydrant to identify properties within immediate water access. For fire stations, network analysis calculates the actual travel distance along roads, rather than straight-line distance, to determine if a property is within the 5-mile coverage area.
