Description:

This dataset contains the trail point feature and trail lines on Martha's Vineyard.  The trails are primarily designated as hiking trails although mountain bikers, horseback riders, and cross country skiers are known to use these trails as well.  Point features include trailheads, parking areas, view points, features of interest, etc.

The trail polyline file also includes those roads which serve as connectors from one trail property to another.  The trail data contains many attributes including designation (i.e. easement, trail, planned trail, special way, ancient way, etc), surface type, access, etc.

These data are under constant edit, review, and updating.  Every effort is made to push the latest and greatest version to this ArcGIS Online account.

These data are maintained by the Martha's Vineyard Commission.  Over the years, the data have been GPSed with various Trimble GPS units.  Our latest unit is a Geo 7X.

This compilation of the MV Island-wide trail network would not possible without the assistance of the Island's Conservation Consortium.  Thanks for sharing.
