Description: Within Tisbury, ponds which have a surface area > 5,000sq ft are under the purview of the Town's Conservation Commission. Ponds of that size were identified from one of three data sources: (1) LiDAR breaklines from the Spring 2021 survey; (2) MassGIS Hydrography 1:25,000 dataset; or (3) MassDEP Wetlands (of classification 'open water') data of 2017. While the latter two datasets were used to initially identify the pond, the Martha's Vineyard Commission (MVC) then on-screen digitized the outline of the pond from the Spring 2025 orthophotos. The LiDAR breaklines were converted to polygon areas by the MVC in ArcPro software. Where ponds extend beyond the town line, the area of the pond was clipped to the Tisbury town boundary.It is acknowledged that their maybe additional ponds with Tisbury that this dataset has not captured. In ArcPro, all ponds were bufferd 100ft. All individual buffers are retained and the area of overlap between neighboring buffers is not dissolved. Where the resulting buffer intersected water, that area of the buffer was removed. Hence, the buffer area does not extend into any pond area except in Lagoon Pond where the buffer at the town line down the center of the pond is retained. Where pond's buffer area extends beyond the town line, the area of the pond buffer was clipped to the Tisbury town boundary. An attribute of Town is included in the dataset.
