This polygon dataset shows the locations of ACT-wide Cat Containment Areas and Declared Cat Containment Areas in the Australian Capital Territory that are legislated by the ACT Government under the Domestic Animals Act 2000.

From 1 July 2022, cat containment has been extended across the ACT for cats born on or after 1 July 2022 under Section 84AO(2) of the Act. This means, in ACT-wide cat containment areas, cats born on or after 1 July 2022 must be kept on your premises 24 hours a day.

A number of suburbs across the ACT have been declared cat containment areas under the Domestic Animals (Cat Containment) Declaration 2019 (No 1) - Disallowable Instrument DI2019-33. This means in these suburbs that were declared cat containment areas, all cats (regardless of age) must be contained to their premises 24 hours a day.

This is a non-asset dataset for information only. The polygons are managed by City Services, Transport Canberra and City Services Directorate (TCCS).

Attributes include area name, division and declaration (ACT-wide cat containment area, declared cat containment area).
