Description:

The Economic Hardship Index (EHI) provides a comprehensive measure of economic conditions using six socioeconomic indicators from the U.S. Census Bureau American Community Survey (ACS) data, including dependency, education, unemployment, income level, crowded housing, and poverty.

Across the state of Florida, county level estimates of these six indicators were standardized to give them equal weight when combined into a composite index. The index scores represent the normalized sum of the six indicators (also normalized) and range from 0 to 100, with higher scores indicating worse economic conditions.

More detail about the methodology used to create the Economic Hardship Index can be found in the document here.
