This layer is meant to be viewed along side the Bastings subsoil survey map with the wcc_bastings_subsoil_survey_1936_areas and wcc_bastings_subsoil_survey_1936_depths layers. This layer should not be taken out of context of the Bastings map.

The original subsoil survey of central Wellington City was prepared from information collected from the records of the city council, the Public Works Dept, the Harbour Board, The Turnbull Library, or supplied by architects, builders, contractors etc. Adapted fromt he Schain map of NZ Lands & Survey Department by L.Bastings Octorber 1936 and drawn by M. Sawyer.

The bastings subsoil survey areas in this layer have been derived from thehistoricBastings Subsoil Survey of Central Wellington map held by Wellington City Council Archives. The Bastings map was digitally scalled and then overlaid (georeferencedusing the 2017 Wellington City aerial imagery) and captured into GIS format.
