Description: <div><span style="font-size: 14px;">We want Wellington to be a City that is prepared for shocks and natural hazard events, with new communities built in less vulnerable locations, new buildings that are safe and built with risk in mind, and more places/spaces available to enable communities to come together and support one another.</span></div><div><br /></div><div><span style="font-size: 14px;">Wellington is subject to a number of natural hazard risks, with the prospect of tsunami, flooding, sea level rise, liquefaction, slope failure and ground shaking being a constant reality facing the city. Consequently, we need to ensure that we carefully consider and address natural hazard risks when we develop and build resilience – both physical and social.</span></div><div><br /></div><div><span style="font-size: 14px;">In many cases these risks can be minimised through modern building design and technology, while in others the cost of development will be higher and alternatives will need to be found.</span></div><div><br /></div><div><span style="font-size: 14px;">The cost of development map looks at the natural hazards affecting different parts of Wellington. It indicates the increase cost of developing these areas where hazards propose additional risk.</span></div>
