Service Description: These data have been modified from the original USGS NHD to include attributes relevant to the identification of groundwater-dependent rivers and streams in Oregon. Groundwater dependence of rivers is assessed using five indicator datasets; perennial flow, 'Super Stable Groundwater', gaining reaches, reaches with contributing springs, and streams with baseflow index greater than 0.5. Multiple indicators of groundwater-dependence can increase confidence that the river is a GDE. Rivers with the highest confidence were predominantly found in the more arid east side of the state.

Description:

This dataset represents the extent and approximate location of rivers and streams in the state of Oregon with some likelihood of groundwater dependence. Indicators of groundwater dependence for these rivers and streams include:

Perennial flowing natural stream (defined as "FCODE" = 46006).

Reaches identified as "Super Stable Groundwater" by McManamay and DeRolph (2019),

Reaches identified by field measurements, including seepage runs, to be gaining reaches (references),

Reaches with at least one mapped spring within 100 meters upslope of the channel, and

Unregulated reach networks draining into USGS stream gages with continuous discharge data (NWIS, 2021) that have > 0.50 baseflow index.

Each of these indicators is attributed to the flowline as well as the sum of indicators present per line segment.
