Service Description: This dataset shows the locations of various types of vegetation surveys taken to support the classification and mapping of vegetation throughout the State of California. Most surveys will have a vegetation name that is either accepted by California Department of Fish and Wildlife's Vegetation Classification and Mapping Program (VegCAMP) and the California Native Plant Society (CNPS), or is undergoing a vetting process. The majority of the surveys have associated plant cover data related to each point. Some surveys have associated photos. The goal of this dataset is to share vegetation observations and instances of vegetation at the finest classification level (association), as most of the published maps of vegetation are at a coarser classification level (alliance). The surveys also have their related species cover values and photographs associated with them. This dataset is not comprehensive for California, and as of September 2020, it is not yet complete for surveys taken by CNPS and CDFW during completed projects.

Description:

Vegetation surveys included in this dataset have been collected through various vegetation classification and mapping projects, and some were also collected independently from these kinds of projects. Reports for these projects can be found in CDFW's document library see https://nrm.dfg.ca.gov/documents/ContextDocs.aspx?cat=VegCAMP.
