Description: The Region 6 Wildland Fire Occurrence point dataset represents ignition points from which individual wildland fires started for the fire years 1900 to present. This dataset is maintained at the Forest and District level, or their equivalent, to track the occurrence and the origin of individual wildland fires. Records within the Region 6 Wildland Fire Occurrence point dataset include historical fire point information from a variety of sources prior to 1986, the Fire Statistics System (FIRESTAT) computer application for fire record information from 1986 to 2019, and the Interagency Fire Occurrence Reporting Modules (InFORM) application for fire record information from 2020 to present. Note that fires which pre-date the use of FIRESTAT and InFORM may or may not represent the actual ignition point of any given wildland fire and that the locations of historical wildfires are often a direct result of the rules for fire reporting at the time they were collected. InFORM (replaced FIRESTAT) is the authoritative data source for entering and maintaining information from the Individual Fire Report (form FS-5100-29) as required by the United States Forest Service (USFS) Handbook FSH 5109.14, for all wildland fire occurrences on National Forest System Lands or National Forest-Protected Lands. Additional references include the Fireline Handbook FSH 5109.32/NWCG Handbook 3 PMS 410-1. Verification of attribute transfer from FIRESTAT to the Region 6 Wildland Fire Occurrence point dataset during the annual update was contained within the point attribute table field FIRESTATQC, these values were migrated to the point attribute table field FIRERPTQC. Verification of attribute transfer from InFORM to the Region 6 Wildland Fire Occurrence point dataset during the annual update is contained within the point attribute table field FIRERPTQC. Note, prescribed fires are tracked in a separate database, the Forest Service Activity Tracking System (FACTS), and are not included in the Region 6 Wildland Fire Occurrence point dataset. If a prescribed fire escapes AND is declared a wildfire, an Individual Fire Report (form FS-5100-29) is required and the fire location of only the area burned after the escape is included in the fire occurrence dataset. The minimum mapping unit is 24 meters at 1:24,000 scale.
